Prechrysler (Steve) Human Wizard-4 Sorcerer-1 [Retired]

We spent three days in town this time identifying items, resting and purchasing new magic items with our extra money. With the leaving of Prechrysler our group was in need of an arcane spellcaster. So I decided to begin my career as a rogue-wizard. I purchased a spellbook learn three new spells and purchased 12 scrolls with first level spells on them. Becoming a wizard is very expensive. I also had to buy special inks to scribe my scroll into my spellbook and the cost of the spells added up too. I then decided it was time to end my persona as a drow and take on one as a wizard. So I sold the magic chitin armor and began using the magic mithril chain shirt we had found. Although the armor does interfere with a spellcasting I figured it was better to be protected than to worry about the minor chance of having my spells interrupted. My new persona was Tyrrick, a human male around 35 years old with hazel eyes and brown hair with some gray streaks.
At the end of the three days the four of us regrouped and headed back into the ruins. The portal room had been cleaned up and in addition to the three scribes there was now six armed warriors. Even I could tell these warrior were too green to be able to stand up against the creatures we had encounter in the dungeon. I figured if we could clear the fourth level they would probably be safe up on the third level. So we went down the ramp to the fourth level into room with the urns and sarcophagus. Exiting the room we chose to go back to the drow-worm’s room and search it. In the room was only a pile of straw. We searched the room and found a spyglass and a dagger hidden in the straw. Next we decided to head west and see what was beyond the room with the creature that had tentacles coming out of its stomach. The hallway continues west 60 feet turned north for 60 feet then another 180 feet west to a door. The door didn’t appear trapped so Specere opened the door. Inside the room was a mound of flesh with mouths all over its body and two large centipede-like creatures with tentacles all around its mouth. I had heard of carrion crawlers and this seems to match the description I had heard of, but the other creature was unknown to me. Someone yelled it might be a gibbering mouther, I think it was Specere. Argent rushed the first carrion crawler and Specere right behind him rushed the mouther. Trot and myself helped finish off the first crawler. That when the mouther let out an horrid sound. I imagine a weaker person might have run off or lost there sanity, but our group remained strong and killed the mouther and the second carrion crawler. We searched the room, but found nothing, no secret doors and no hidden treasure. Because this room was the only place of interest in this end of the complex we had to travel almost all the way back to the ramp room. Near the ramp room we when west and headed 140 feet to an intersection. West continued another 40 feet and turned north, the south passage was 40 feet long and end at a door in the eastern wall. The door was not trapped and Specere opened the door. Inside was a strange looking creature, it kind of look like a little dinosaur with no eyes. Argent and Specere rushed it pounded it with there attacks Trot helped with is tail slap. That’s when the creature turned its head and released some kind of scream. Although I dodged some of the sonic blast, Argent and Trot felt it effects. Not wanting to feel the blast again we concentrated our attack to kill this nasty creature as fast as possible. After our second series of attacks the creature fell. Inside the room was another sarcophagus. Before we even had chance to search was all felt a wave of something pass by us. Trot took off running full speed out the door. I figured it might be a good idea to regroup outside the door and possible heal some of our wounds before confronting the sarcophagus. Argent was behind me followed by Specere and finally Enalo. Specere and Enalo stood outside the door and said they didn’t feel the effects anymore. Enalo healed me and I healed Argent. Specere stood watch at the door until we finished healing. As we turned to go back into the room something black swooped down and covered Specere upper half of his body. Enalo said it was a cloaker. Argent rushed up and attacked the creature, but every hit also injured Specere. I cast my first offensive spell in combat, magic missile. Enalo was close enough to heal Specere from both the cloakers damage and the little bit of damage we were inflicting as well. The good news is cloakers are more deceptive than powerful. With just a couple of attacks we were able to kill the clocker freeing Specere. I inspected the sarcophagus for traps, but didn’t find any. Specere open the lid and inside was the remains of mummy. At least this one was not undead. The mummy was wearing full plate and holding a long sword. We took the treasure and headed back to the hallway.
We went west, north, west, south then west again for over 300 feet. When we rounded the corner going west two fire giant ghosts, a man and a woman, appeared in front of us saying “Turn back, only death awaits you, lest the curse overtake you”. We ignored the ghosts and followed the path. The path turned to the north, then to the east then to the south, spiraling in on itself. I took my time going down the last hallway checking for traps every 20 feet or so. At the end of the hallway I was sure there must be something there, but after a through search I couldn’t find anything. As we retraced out steps back down the hallway. At the southern most part of the hall we decided to search the wall for possible secret doors, seemed as good a place as any other. I found one right away. Not far from where the ghosts gave us the warning.
I didn’t find any traps on the door and Specere opened the door. On the other side of the door was a 20 by 80 foot room with a black and red checkerboard pattern. We all assumed the floor was some kind of trap scheme. Argent chose to go first and stepped out onto first black 5 by 5 square. He then proceeded to cross the room stepping on black squares. The rest of us followed stepping on the same squares as Argent. About 30 feet into the room he stepped on a black square and out of the wall swung a huge axe. Good thing Argent was paying attention and jumped back out of the way. Well now we know what to look for. Checking the walls we saw that every 5 feet was an opening just like the one from which the axe had swung. Argent put the Sword of Winters away and used his axe to check the floor for presser plates by pushing down on the stone before stepping on the 5-by-5 squares. About 140 feet down the room, and after three more axes, the room narrowed to only 10 feet wide. Ten feet beyond the narrowing there was a cave in with a small 3-foot high gap to squeeze through. We all inspected the collapsed wall, but none of us know anything about architecture or engineering. Enalo came up with the idea of summoning a crocodile and sending it through the gap and investigate the other side. He summoned the croc and it took off through gap. The gap slid a couple of inches but didn’t fully collapse. We all watched as it scuttled down the hall to the next collapse and then disappeared from our sight. We also noticed that the crocodile didn’t set off any of the traps or that there might not be any at that end of the room. Enalo changed into a bird, I changed into my small elf persona Ariel Featherlight. We both had little problem crawling through the gap, Trot slid right through, and Specere squeezed through next followed by Argent. Argent bumped the wall and the rubble slid about six inches nearly wedging him. On the other side Enalo recalled his summoned croc. He moved past the rubble and arrived at a huge set of door with a symbol in drow that said “Creation”. The door didn’t appear trapped so we opened it up. Inside the room were three Synads that looked just like Specere, a half-Illithid half-drow, and an obvious spellcaster. We held a line just beyond the door and let them come to us. The front line from left to right was Trot, Enalo, Specere and Argent with me standing behind them. Enalo cast a strange spell and the room filled with flying piranhas. It only seemed to affect one of the Synads. The rest of us held the line as the Synads and Half-Drow Illithid rushed up to us. Argent and Specere pounded the Synads, but Trot became grappled by the Illithid as it looked like it was going to pull him forward and eat his brains. My first spell was to grease Trot making him harder to hold on to. The wizard began casting fireball after fireball. I dodged the fire, but the rest of the guys didn’t fair as well. With the grease spell on Trot he was able to escape from the illithid-drow as Enalo helped Trot in combat. Specere and Argent finished off the three Synads. Specere seemed very angry and rushed the wizard and with one powerful attack killed him just as the illithid-drow fell in combat. We now had a chance to get a good look at the room. This looked like the place where they had been creating all the aberration we had been encountering on this level. We felt this might be a good time to call Dean Petty, as there were all sorts of magical apparatus that might interest the college including some strange animals in cages (that had been killed by the flying fish spell). Dean Petty arrived within an hour. In the mean time we gather up the treasure and collected all the magical items that interested us. Once Dean Petty arrived Specere and Argent helped carry much of the apparatus and gear to the college’s facility in Stormreach.
