We spend a total of 2 days in town before we returned to the magic portal. We passed through the portal and were met by Dean Petty. In the room were three assistants with what looked like easels. I imagine that they were more than just easels. When asked, Dean Petty explained the portal would be open for at least a couple more days. That was welcome news. I definitely prefer to sleep in a bed rather than my bedroll. From the room with the runes we went back to the spinning hallway. We rotated the hallway until we were facing west (at least I think is was west). Through the door at the end of the hall we found a 40’ hallway with a door at the end. I went down the hallway and looked for traps. The door had a scorpion motif, but no trap that I could see. Unfortunately when Argent opened the door he was struck by a lightning trap. I explained to the guys again that I have never had training in finding magical traps and that I can only find mechanical trap. They didn’t seem very happy about that fact.
On the other side of the door were two sarcophagi under the protective claws of a huge warforged scorpion statue. The room also had one exit heading south. We cautiously approached the first sarcophagus. I inspected it for “mechanical” trap and didn’t find any. None of them trusted me anymore and didn’t really want to open the lid. In the end Argent stepped forward and opened the lid. Inside was a mummy, just our luck. The space between the scorpion and the sarcophagus only allowed one person to attack straight on and one from a difficult angle. Specere used one of his abilities and made himself into a large human and attacked over the top of Argent. With the three of us attacking the battle with the mummy went when fairly well. I’m glad Argent is a warforged and can’t become diseased. From what I’ve heard the disease Mummy Rot is hard to cure and usually fatal.
The second sarcophagus didn’t appear trapped either when I gave it a good look. Argent opened the lid and out popped a second mummy. This one seemed much tougher. This time Argent and Trot attacked from the front and Specere enlarged attacked over the two of them. The battle raged for quite a while. We were finally getting the upper hand when the mummy backed up and disappeared under the scorpion claw. Enalo summon a crocodile and sent it in to feel around for something. It bumped into an invisible object. The mummy knowing that we had it began attacking again. Once visible we were able to finish it off. Without Prechrysler to heal Argent with his repair object spells it took several of Enalo’s spell to heal Argent. It seems the heal spell are only about half as effective for him than for anyone else in our group.
The door heading south had a scorpion motif again, but I didn’t see any traps. Again a magical electrical trap hit Argent. Behind the door was a long hallway with one door to the west and nothing in plain sight to the east. I spend several minutes searching the damn wall on the east end of the hallway, but to no avail. We all chose to head to the door. There was a scorpion motif on the door. I looked and found no mechanical traps, but told Argent it was probably trapped all the same. He agreed, but said it didn’t hurt that much. Apparently the trap on this door was much more powerful and Argent took a much larger bolt of lightning from the trap.
Inside this 20 by 30 foot room was one of those damn warforged scorpion except this one was not a statue. We took our standard positions that we use to fight the scorpion and commenced battle. As usual Argent took the brunt of the attack and damage from the scorpion. He also inflicted the most damage as usual. At the end of the battle we searched the room. I found a secret door in the south wall. We opened the door and saw four chests. The first one was knocked over with gold spilling out and the room was not unoccupied.
