Sometime later that night Argent woke up Otho and me, since he doesn’t sleep. He told us something is going on outside he said he could hear the griffon making noises. I grabbed my rapier and ran out in time to see the griffons flying out of the barn and a small fire inside the barn. We ran over and found Enalo casting water spells putting out some of the fire. The rest of us ran in and tried helping him put out the fire. The best we could do was to make sure the fire didn’t spread to the inn itself.

The townspeople came running out of their houses to help put out the rest of the fire. We succeeded in keeping the inn from burning; the barn was a complete loss. So were our mounts and any chance we had of ever traveling the 2000 miles, to Sharn, in a reasonable amount of time. Enalo pulled us aside and said that it was the farmer’s daughter, Katie, who set the barn on fire. When Enalo decided to save the animals and try and save the barn he saw her running off towards the forest. With most of the townspeople standing around Otis began looking for his daughter and quickly realized she was missing. He began making accusation directed out our group. The first was he accused Otho of stealing his daughter and the rest of us of setting the fire to the barn. As one of the town’s more respected member the rest of the town began to get riled up. I stepped up and did my best to calm the people down and explain we had nothing to do with the fire or his daughter’s disappearance. Next Argent and I helped take Otis back to his room to sleep off his drunkenness. Otho followed not wanting to be outside with the angry mob. Enalo and Trot stopped at the doorway and scowled at the crowd keeping them at bay. Most of the villagers wanted nothing to do with a mean goblin and his pet crocodile. Argent and myself put Otis into his bed and told him we would do our best to find his daughter. The crowd was still agitated and Enalo let one of the villagers up stairs to make sure we weren’t harming Otis. The villagers name was Peter and upon seeing that all we did was put Otis to bed he felt better about us. I asked Peter to help us organize a search party to find Katie. I told him that I was putting him in charge of one of the search groups. He was excited to be given the responsibility of helping find Katie. We exited the inn and Peter helped explain that Otis was just drunk and that we were organizing search parties. Our group would search the part of town by the forest and the villagers were to search the other side of town. Knowing the Katie ran towards the forest we went that way and found her just inside the forest crying. We asked Katie what was wrong and why she set the fire. She explained that her father beat her for paying to much attention to the kobold and that she wasn’t thinking and set the fire to get even with him. After realizing she had done something terrible and that she shouldn’t of set the fire she ran off into the woods. We explained that her father was the only family she had and that we would have a stern talking with her father in the morning. We told her running away was not the solution and that someday the inn was going to be hers. On the way back to town we ran into the other group and explained that everything was ok. They seemed satisfied with our explanation and all returned home. We brought Katie back to her father. He was happy to see her and thanked us for finding his daughter. We told Otis that Katie is all the family that he has and that he should treat her with respect and if we ever heard different we would come back and give Otis some of his own medicine. In the morning we had breakfast. Otis and his daughter seemed to be on good terms after our speech to them. We asked direction to the nearest town to the south and we were told there was a pass through the Black Cap Mountains that led to the city of Cragwar. So we grabbed our gear and set out on foot heading south towards Sharn.

We traveled most of the first day and half of the second day before we finally saw someone. We were walking down a well-traveled road on the south side of the Black Cap Mountains when we came across a man and his wagon. The wagon was sitting in the mud with one tire was off. I began approaching the man to ask if he could use some help when Argent whispered, “This could be a trap so watch out”. Just as I got next to the man asking him if he needed help from out of the woods came a group of human thieves. It was exactly what Argent said it was. I will have to remember to listen to him more in the future when it comes to tactics and attacks. He has obviously has had more experience dealing with these situations than I have. Argent ran into the attacking thieves along with Trot right behind him. I engaged the man next to the wagon. I don’t know how my colleague’s battles were going, but my fight was going against me, and fast. He was a more practiced fight than I was. I did my best I could, but he cut me a couple of times with his sword. In a panic I decided maybe I would be better grappling him than going toe-to-toe. I lunged at him with the idea of subduing my opponent and assuming his form and ordering the thieves to surrender or retreat. My opponent stepped aside and landed another painful shot. I knew I couldn’t take much more before I would collapse. Maybe it was because he was getting overconfident or overanxious, but I finally caught him with my rapier. He seemed surprised, but he kept pressing me. We continued swinging wilding and missing when I heard someone coming up behind me. I couldn’t look back and could only hope it was one of my friends. Thank goodness it was Argent. He charged the man and with some deft attacks finished him. Argent and the guys had finished off the other bandits. Apparently I was engaged with the leader of the thieves because the rest of them were poor combatant. Even though they were poor combatant Argent had taken several hits and was just as injured as I was. This didn’t bode well. Both Otho and Enalo did the best they could to heal Argent and me. For some reason Argent doesn’t react well with healing magic even though we both received the same amount of healing I looked and felt better than Argent. After healing up we inspected the thieves and found 1 pp, 4 gp, 4sp, 7cp and three potions.
