Had the creature not chosen to revert to its natural form I’m sure Specere would have done his best to stop Argent from attacking the drow-worm, even if it meant attacking him. Fortunately for us Specere came to his senses when he saw the true form of the worm creature. Specere seem exceedingly angry about the deception and took it out on the worm. Argent also inflicted some heavy damage on his second attack and Trot did his fair share of tail slapping. Once we were all on the same side again the battle ended quickly for the unlucky drow-worm.
Since we were now clear outside on the top of the pyramid we had a long hike all the way back down to the fourth level where we found the drow-worm. We traversed the second level and headed down the stair towards the spinning hallway. When we rounded the corner and there in front of us were four well equipped drow. [We nicknamed the four drow The Sentry, Painbringer, The Priestess and The Enforcer]. The Sentry was some kind of fighter, The Enforcer was a Barbarian, The Priestess was a female cleric and Painbringer was an arcane spellcaster probably a sorcerer. The good news was because this was formally a giant stronghold the hallways were 15 feet wide. Our front ranks consisted of Specere, Argent and Trot with Enalo and myself in reserve. Argent squared off with The Sentry with some help from Trot as Specere moved forward to engage The Enforcer. I move into position to sneak attack The Enforcer as The Priestess and Painbringer began casting spells from the rear. Enalo summoned a crocodile to fight and try to distract the spell casters. The battle was fierce with both sides taking and inflicting heavy damage. Our first sign of victory came when The Enforcer fell in battle followed shortly by The Sentry. Once we got down to just The Priestess and Painbringer we were able to disrupt most of their spell casting and finish them off relatively quickly. Between the battle with the drow-worm and the four drow elite we were out of healing spells and some of us were still wounded. We gather the drow elite’s gear and found that they had two heads in a sack. The heads belonged to two of Dean Petty’s assistants.
Some of us wanted to go and find a safe place to hold up like the storeroom, but Specere and myself wanted to head to High Priestess Zumana’s room where the portal was. After a brief discussion we chose to go to the portal room. On the way there we forgot about the trap in the hallway and set off an alarm. Guess we weren’t thinking to clearly. We opened the door to the room and immediately noticed several things. 1. The portal was gone. 2. There was blood everywhere in the room. 3. The bodies of the decapitated assistance had been animated into what someone called a Blood Eagle. It seemed the assistants had their backs cut open and their lungs pulled out to look like gossamer wing. Apparently this was done while they were still alive! The two undead assistants didn’t waste anytime and rushed our weakened group. These Blood Eagles were extremely tough. We concentrated our attacks on the first Blood Eagle and after a concerted effort, along with a few cuts and scratches, were able to dispatch the creature. The second Blood Eagle soon followed. By the end of the battle we were a blood mess. I pulled out the Whistle of Summoning and hoped nothing would arrive before Dean Petty and friends opened the portal to safety. The immortals were looking out for us this day. Not only did nothing attack us, but Dean Petty arrived in about half an hour with a small troop of soldiers. We explained what had happened and that we never found the third assistant. Dean Petty informed us the third assistant had returned through the portal sometime before the attack and was safe. We thanked him for the good news and headed for our rooms to try and rest and hopefully not dwell upon the horrors we had seen.
